The 300 actors would never eat until full. The Spartan diet, along with some other sources of lean protein, included: By barely eating enough for recovery, they gained well-fined abs and musculature. It was a tremendous help as far as injury prevention, stamina, and overall focus. We had a massage therapist on-site every day and a kinesiologist visited twice per week to treat anyone ailing. People should balance intense training with adequate sleep, massage, and restoration methods, such as cold-water immersion, electrical muscle stimulation, and contrast baths. There is no such thing as over-training, only under-recovery. For the crew of 300, they were often working with swords and other weapons in their down-time.
